Abstract
Fifty random samples were taken from raw beef received to a Village Development Camp at Kalyobia Governorate. All of the examined samples were contaminated with Enterobacteriaceae, and the mean value of the total Enterobacteriaceae count was 8.3 xlO ± 2.6 x 10 1gm. The incidence of the isolated organisms was as follow, Citrobacter diversus 1 (2%); Citrobacter freundii 5 (10%); Enterobacter aerogenes 11 (22%); Enterobacter cloacae 10 (20%); Escherichia coli 30 (60%); Providencia 3 (6%) and Salmonella teshie 1 (2%). Isolation of S. teshie (047:HL,Z13,Z28:en,Z15) from raw beef was the first record in Egypt. The public health signifi cance of the isolated Salmonella and other members of the family Enterobacteriaceae was discussed.
