Abstract

The effect of supply reactance on the performance of a three-phase induction motor fed from a non-ideal sin¬gle-phase supply, using a capacitor phase converter, is investigated. Equations for predicting the performance of the motor are derived, with the effect of the single-phase supply reactance taken into consideration. Star-and delta-connected motors are considered in deriving the performance equations. Computed results for the motor-performance characteristics obtained when the motor is fed from a non-ideal single-phase supply are compared with those obtained when the motor is fed from a non-ideal three-phase balanced supply having the same supply reactance as that of the single-phase supply.
