Abstract
An analytical method for obtaining the transient performance following starting of a d.c. series motor is presented.The effect of speed variation on the transient performance is taken into consideration.The components of the transient current and transient torque following the starting of the motor are derived. Comparisons between the results of the overall transient current and torque obtained from an exact numerical solution and the results of the analytical solution for a 2.3 hp motor showed very close agreement.
