Abstract
An analytical method for obtaining the transient current and torque components following the connection of a d.c. series motor to a d.c chopper is presented. In obtaining the transient components, the variation of motor speed is taken into account. The transient components of a 1.7 kW d.c. series motor were obtained using this method. To check the validity of this method it was used to obtain the overall transient characteristics and the results were compared with results obtained from the numerical step-by-step solution and good agreement was obtained.
