Abstract
A variable-speed solution for evaluating transient current and
torque components of a 3-phase induction motor following switching-on to the supply is presented.
The solution assumes the speed to remain constant only over the step-length of the conventional numerical solution of the motor differential equations.
The speed variation is taken into account by numerically integrating the mechanical equation of the motor over each step of the solution. Computed results of transient current and torque using the conventional approach and also experimental results of the transient torque confirm the validity of the proposed method.
