Abstract
A direct method for measuring the phase angle between two periodical sinusoidal or non- sinusoidal waves of the same frequency is presented irrespective of their amplitudes.
In this method of measurement , the two waves are applied to two comparators with rectifiers which give output of unidirectional square waves. The output waves of the two comparators are subtracted from each other by using a NAND gate . The result is a new square wave of variable pulse width proportional to the phase angle between the two input waves . This paper introduces the manipulation of this square pulse for analog measurement using sample and hold algorithm. The method for digital phase angle measurement is also considered . Phase angle between the two input waves , within the range of -180o and +180o , can be measured with an accuracy of 0.5 % .
