Abstract

Background: Menopause is a biological process that can cause various troublesome symptoms such as hot flashes and emotional changes but can also affect cognitive functions. Soy isoflavones (SIF), are natural compounds that gained popularity as an alternative treatment for menopausal symptoms. Aim: The aim of this work was to investigate the effect of isoflavone treatment on memory in ovariectomized female albino rats. Method: 32 female albino rats were divided into 4 groups consisting of 8 rats in each group; sham, Sham+isoflavone, bilateral Ovariectomy (OVX), OVX + isoflavone. After isoflavone treatment, the animals underwent the novel object recognition test (NORT), and their performance was evaluated. at the end of the experiment. Gaba amino butyric acid (GABA) and glutamate were measured in hippocampal tissues and hormonal level of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) & 17β-estradiol (E2) were measured in serum. Results: Animals with ovariectomy showed significant increase (P
