Abstract
The science of photogrammetry deals with extracting quantitative and qualitative data (coordinates, lengths, and shapes) on the earth's surface using photographs. This technique has the advantage of saving the resources. If the site is photographed by a pair of overlapped photographs, and the image coordinates of points in the overlapped area are measured, then these coordinates can be used to calculate the ground coordinates.
This paper investigates the use of cat's eye points as control points for rut depth measurements. Four highway sites were selected; each site was prepared and videotaped by stereo-pair cameras mounted on the back of vehicle travelling at speeds of 20, 40, 60, and 80 km/h. The study concluded that, the cat's eye points can be used as control points in close range photogrammetry.
