Abstract
The variations of the talar articular facets in 507 Egyptian calcanei were examined and
classified into four t),pes; type A : with two articular facets; one on the sustentaculum tali
and another on the distal part of the medial border of the calcaneus (247 calcanei- 49Vo) .
This type is further subdivided into four subtypes, type B with a single arricular facet for
the talar head (235 calcanei- 46Vo) and has two subtypes . Type C wirh a single articular facet
on t}le sustentaculum tali extending into the antero-medial corner of the distal pafl of the
calcaneus and is continuous with the posterior talar facet of the calcaneus, this type was not
observed among Egyptian calcanei . Finalty a type D with a small ailicular facet on the
medial end of the sulcus calcanei (25 calcanei-SVo) and has two subtypes.
