Abstract

The effect of tier in multideck cages on feed consumption, behavior, and production performance on Japanese quail was studied. Birds were housed in five tier cages and weighted at the start of the experiment then weekly, daily feed consumption per bird was recorded. Two sets of eggs were collected three times a day to record the daily egg production, fertility and hatchability percentage and to study the weight and % of egg contents. Sexual behavior (number of attempts and complete matings ), ingestive behavior (feeding and drinking), resting behavior, and aggression were observed. The highest egg production, egg weight, weight and % of egg contents, best feed consumption, highest % of complete matings, % of fertility and hatchability were obtained from birds at the third tier.
