Abstract

In Egypt, the average production of fish farms raised extensively is 0.139 kg/m3 (G.A.F.R.D, 1998). The intensive fish farming nearly not existed in Egypt, the production amounts to 400 kg/m3 (wedemeyer, 1996). The purpose of this paper is to present a developed simulation model was validated and now production system. The developed computer model was validated and now working as management tool to give farm design parameters for a specific production level such as fish tank diameter (m), bed volume of the biological filter (m3), cross section area of the biological filter (m2), specific surface area of the media (m2/m3), required oxygen transfer rate (g O2/ h), growing period (day), required amount of feed (kg), maximum water flow through system (m3/h), in relation to weight of individual fish and water temperature. The results of the physical model gave a carrying capacity up to 30 kg/m3.
