Abstract

The immune response in acute and chronic schistosomiasis was evaluated in 24 Egyptian schoolchildren before and after praziquantel therapy. In acute infections, the specific anti-SEA IgM decreased significantly after treatment, while it decreased insignificantly in chronic cases. The specific IgG was significantly reduced in both acute and chronic cases after therapy. The specific anti-SWAP IgM showed insignificant reduction after treatment of acute cases, while in chronic cases it remained unchanged. The specific anti-soluble worm antigen (SWAP) IgG decreased significantly in acute cases after treatment, while it showed insignificant elevation in chronic cases The immune response in acute and chronic schistosomiasis was evaluated in 24 Egyptian schoolchildren before and after praziquantel therapy.
