Abstract
This paper presents a study about the performance characteristics of synchronous generator driven by wind turbine and connected to the grid. Varying the field current increases the operating range of machine. Also, the maximum power is obtained through the wide range of wind velocity.
The operation with variable field current is better than constant field current where the machine has higher efficiency and become stable all over the range of operation.
The wind velocity of the site is an important factor in determination the suitable radius of wind turbine.
