Abstract
The present work studied the design elements of oncology centers through its both theoretical and applied studies. According to the previous studies, contemporary supportive design theories were examined. The study aimed to construct a modified theoretical framework that fulfill the psychological needs of local/regional patients. Through the theoretical study, design elements could be classified into physical and complementary elements. The applied study exposed to the current status of these types of buildings through the author’s observation and questionnaire form distributed to three different user groups (outpatients, chemotherapy and radiotherapy patients). Using these tools, the present study concluded that some design principles were not applied in the case study sample. Therefore, study recommended some improvements that should be considered when constructing the new buildings or renewing existing buildings.
