Abstract
The hospital's infection control process is comprehensive encompassing both patient care and employee health services. It is designed to lower the risks and improve the rates or trends of epidemiologically significant infections. The aim of this study is to assess the infection control measures applied in the Intensive Care Unit, at Benha University Hospital. The present study tried to answer the following questions: What do health team members know about infection control measures? , What do health team members do to control spread of infections? , What are the different obstacles that affect the implementation of infection control measures in the ICU? What are the suggested measures to overcome such obstacles? The study sample constituted (52) health team members six of them were physicians, eleven were nursing supervisor twenty nine were staff diploma nurses, six were auxiliary workers are working in the Intensive Care Unit at Benha University Hospital, Their age ranged between 20-47 years old with a mean age of [29.2308 4.30055years]. The study was conducted over six months in Intensive Care Unit of Benha University. Three tools were utilized for data collections which are socio demographic sheet, questionnaire sheet and observational cheek list. Results showed negative correlation between knowledge and performance scores of all group subject .The study concluded that all health team members are in need to improve their knowledge and practices about infection control measures. The study recommended well planned orientation and in-service training programs on the performance standards, proper supervision.
