Abstract
The present study involved 25 psoriatic patients and 25 apparently healthy volunteers. The study included patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. After obtaining a written consent, a peripheral venous blood sample was collected from each subject under complete aseptic conditions and was used for:
a- MiRNA-33 level measurement.
b- Laboratory investigations including FBS, Chloesterol, TGs, HDL and LDL.
c- Insulin level and calculation of HOMA-IR.
Common crotid artery intima-media wall thickness was assessed by an ultrasound specialist.
The data obtained were tabulated, calculated and statistically analyzed.
The results of the present study showed that:

Psoriasis is a common, chronic, inflammatory, multisystem disease with predominantly skin and joint manifestations affecting approximately 2% of the population. In this study, we give an overview of psoriasis including its cardinal clinical features, pathogenesis, classification, assessment tools used to evaluate it and different biomarkers for the disease.
The present study aims at evaluating serum 8-OHdG as a reliable biomarker in psoriasis by measuring its level in psoriatic patients before and after methotrexate (MTX) therapy.
