Abstract

The present developmental studies on the early stages of Coturnix coturnix japonica reveals the following observations: 1. The primary elements ( the parachordal plate and the acrochordal cartilage ) codify from separate center. 2. Both of the pila antotica and the posterior orbital cartilage have the same center of chondrification, that is the acrochordal cartilage. 3. At the posterior edge, the basal plate terminates with one occipital condyle. 4. The prechordal region is represented by occurrence of five cartilages which are; paired trabeculae cranii, paired anterior orbital cartilages, median single intertrabecula as well as paired polar and suprapolar cartilages. 5. The lord sis phenomenon is well represented in the chordal region of the present stages and becomes less pronounced during developmental progress. 6. The auditory capsule has two centers of chondrification, these are the cochlear and canalicular parts.
