Abstract
In this paper, an interesting aspect of the Finsler metrizability problem is considered by discussing how many essentially different metrics can be associated to a given spray. The notion of metric freedom of sprays is introduced and investigated. We show that in the regular case, the holonomy distribution can be used to calculate the metric freedom. As a working example, the class of isotropic sprays is considered.
