Abstract

Five hundred students aged 17-24 years (324 males and 176 females) were chosen at random from the newly entering students of Monophia University at Shebeen El Koom. Every student subjected to an interview, full clinical examination, urine and stool analysis. Blood haemoglobin determination, blood group recording and mass radiography were performed. Analysis of the results by the computer pointed out that the leading diseases or impairments among the studied students were error of refraction, dental caries, anaemia and urinary bilharziasis. There is a male predominance in the prevalence of urinary bilharziasis among the newly admitted students. The work revealed a linear regression of the level of haemoglobin by colour matching and spectrophotometric method. The anthropometric measurements are higher in the studied males than in females while these measurements are lower than those of the matched British students. The results are discussed and suitable recommendations, were included.
