Abstract
Aim: This study aimed to improve the quality of maternal health care in maternal and child health care centers in Kalyubia governorate through planning and implementing a quality improvement program based on the assessed needs of nurses toward maternal health and quality. Research design: A quasi- experimental research design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting: The study was conducted in 50% maternal and child health care centers in Kalyubia governorate (11 centers). Sample: The studied sample included all nurses worked in the studied centers (67 nurses), and a sample of 110 client to assess their satisfaction (10 clients from each center). The tools included (1) an interviewing questionnaire: A- to assess the socio- demographic characteristics of nurses, their knowledge about maternal health care, and quality. B- To assess the client satisfaction. (2) An observational checklist: A- to assess the structure of M.C.H centers, B- to assess the quality of nursing performance. Results: The study showed that nurses' knowledge and performance regarding quality of maternal care and client satisfaction improved significantly in all aspects after implementation of the program. Also there were a statistically significant relation between the socio demographic characteristics of nurses and their performance, and between clients' socio demographic characteristics and their satisfaction toward health care services .Recommendations: Periodical continuing educational programs & training workshops should be held and efforts that done by authorities to enhance the infrastructures of M.C.H centers should be continued.
