Abstract

This study investigated the psychological knowledge of (250) university students. The aims of this study were: (i) to assess the prevalence of psychological information of the students. (ii) to identify this knowledge in levels. Participants agreed of filling out questionnaire included a set of statements regarding their knowledge, understanding, and perception of psychology. Comparing competing hypotheses regarding appraisals in terms of sex, levels and content. The study indicated negative scientific perceptions of psychology as general. Lack of scientific knowledge of psychology among the whole sample. Similar lack in terms of sex was found. The main findings were: students of psychology departments (newly attributed) at risky of showing high levels of ignoring scientific information, understanding, conceptions, and psychological terms that necessitate the appropriate levels of psychotherapeutic team intervention. Students had lower levels of psychological knowledge to greater extent than expected which reflect the need for further psycho-educational interventions to improve their psychological knowledge, also future research will be needed to identify the psychological science which is specific for these students.
