Abstract

This study aimed to assess patterns of abuse among school age children in orphanages home. A descriptive design was used; the study including 85 children, aged from 12 to 18 years old from males and females. Three orphanages home was included (social home care for male and social home care for female) , they are the two only orphanages home in Benha city ,and (Yanboaa El-Hakma),also it is the only orphanage home in Shoubra Elkhema in Kalyubyia Governorate. A predestined questionnaire was formulated to assess children's socio-demographic characteristics, physical assessment sheet to assess their physical growth and general condition, patterns of child abuse, in addition to psychometric assessment scales to assess their anxiety, self esteem, and aggressive behavior. The main results showed that, the common patterns of child abuse in orphanages were physical, verbal, emotional and sexual(harassment) .There was a relation between patterns of child abuse and their level of anxiety, self esteem and aggressive behavior. The study recommended that, emphasize the importance of cheeping children in orphanages, supported, protected and supervised. Every effort should be made prevent any pattern of child abuse in orphanages and maintain children's security and humanity through educational, social, religious programs, and role model.
