Abstract
The wireless mobile communications systems suffer significantly from the channel's inherent impairments where interference components are more pronounced. The objective of the proposed research is to quantify the impact of the pilot pollution interference on the performance of the 3G systems and provides a generic framework for the pilot pollution interference detection and cancellation. The framework targets three main perspectives corresponding to the above-mentioned three PPI sources such as follow: The first perception introduces a Base Station Assisted Search (BSAS) approach to minimize the number of the PPI occurrences at the handoff position. The proposed approach stems from constantly observing the environment surrounding the cellular cell and predicting whether the mobile user will pass through that cell or not. If pass through is detected, a dedicated traffic channel will be reserved exclusively for its use and a back off signal will be sent to the neighboring cells holding them from communicating with that mobile user. Thereby, there is a minor chance that the mobile user will receive another extra strong pilot signal. This leads to improve the handoff dropping probability as well as the new calls blocking probability. Simulation experiments are conducted and promising results are obtained.
