Abstract
The journal of Egyptian Society of Pharmacology and Experimental therapeutic; 29(2);July;2008;p514.
Abstract Rosuvastatin is a new synthetic and chemically distinct member of the statin family. Clinical evidence has shown that rosuvastatin is the most effective statin with regard to lipid lowering. However, whether rosuvastatin possesses the ability to exert similar, or more significant, beneficial effects on cardiovascular remodeling is yet to be established. The aim of this work is to evaluate the effect the rosuvastatin on High salt induced cardiac hypertrophy and also isoprenaline induced myocardial infarction on top of this hypertrophy. Myocardial infarction is induced (after 8 weeks) by subcutaneous injection of isoproterenol 20 mg / 100 g body weight .The following parameters were defined: 1) Levels of the marker enzymes such as Creatine Kinase CPK, Lactate dehydrogenase, LDH, in serum.. 2) T wave elevation. 3) Lipid peroxide, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) as a parameter to lipid oxidation and, Superoxide dismutase (SOD) in cardiac homogenate. Rosuvastatin proved to abolish cardiac hypertrophy induced by High salt diet and cause cardioprotection against isoprenaline induced myocardial infarction
