Abstract
Thisworkwasdesignedtostudythesocio-medicalaspectsofpatients
sufieringjromcancersofthedigestivesystemintheEastofDelta.Egypt.
Itcomprised368caseswhoattendedtheOncologyunitofMansouraFa—
cultyofMedicineformanagementduringaperiodof3years.fromSep
tember‘1994toAugust1997.
Theresultsofthisstudyrevealedthat37.8%ofpatientsinthetarget
groupweresu_fl‘eringfromcolorectal cancer. 17.4%cancerliver. 15.5%
cancerpancreas,12.8%canceresophagus. 10.1%cancerbiliarysystem
(gallbladderandcommonbileduct).4.3%cancerstomachand2.2%cancersmallintestine.Maleswerefoundtoconstitute60.0%ofthestudied
patientsandtheyweremoreaffectedthanfemalesbyalltypesofcancer
exceptcancerofthebiliarysystemwithastatisticallysignificantdifi‘er~
