الملخص
The efficiency of petroleum ether and acetone extracts of lupine seeds
(Lupinus termis) alone and under controlled atmospheres (CA) of 25%, 50% CO2
and 99.8% N2 was evaluated against some stored product insects namely; the rice
weevil — Sitophilus oryzae (L). lesser grain borer — Rhizopertha dominica (F.)
and the red flour beetle Tri boleuni castaneum (Herbst.). in the laboratory at
26±1°C and 60 ±5%R.H
The results showed that Lupine seed extracts were more effective against
the adults of the first two insect species than T Castaneum. Meanwhile, the
effectiveness of the acetone extract was slightly higher than petroleum ether
extract
Adult mortalit was dependent on an extract concentration and exposure
period After two weeks post-treatment. complete mortality of adults was
achieved for S oryzea and R dominica at the highest used concentration
(1%wlw). On the other hand the highest used concentration showed very low
mortality values with T castaneum even after two weeks from the initial
treatment. Using lupine seed extracts under various controlled atmospheres of
CO2 and high nitrogen content resulted in higher mortمlity values than each
component alone
