Abstract
In this paper, the Static VAR Compensator (SVC) is presented to improve the voltage stability and rotor angle stability of power systems. The Static VAR Compensator, which is made up of a thyristor switched capacitor (TSC)and a thyristor-controlled reactor(TCR), is installed at recommended buses to provide the required damping. test simulation results is presented when the system is subjected to a three-phase fault with different fault durations and various SVC locations under the absence and presence of SVC using MATLAB private M-files to demonstrate the effectiveness of the static VAR Compensator when used in the context of power system transient stability improvement specially in improving the system voltage stability.
