Abstract
The effects of ethanol feeding on glucose uptake by the rat hemidiaphragm was studied in albino rats. Serum ethanol level was determined in the three groups after 2 weeks of ethanol feeding. The results showed a significant increase in serum ethanol concentration by increasing the concentration of ethanol fed to the rats. Glucose uptake by hemidiaphragms from rats fed 4 % ethanol for one week was not unlike the con¬trol. Ethanol feeding to rats at concentrations, 4%o for 2 weeks, 8" and 1607D for one and two weeks, resulted in a significant decrease in the glucose uptake by the rat hemidiaphragm per hour. This decrease was both time and concentration dependant
