Abstract
Population growth curves of Tribojium castaneum for
various media at 26 , 1°C and 60—70% R.!?. showed a decline
tn the adult populations during the first four months of
rearing for the media containing fenugreek seed flour.
After this period this effect was not evident because of
the influences-of ecological factors affecting the popula
tions such as food shortage and overcrowding effect.
Mortality data revealed that the addition of fenugreek
seed flour did not increase the adult mortalities for T.
castaneum and Sitophilus oryae during the first five
months ز7 rearing under the eriimental conditions.
The rate of growth for T. castaneum was found markedly
higher than that of S. ory3ae. In contrast to the results
achieved forthe popuLation growth curves of T. castaneum,
the fenugreek addition to the diet of S. oryae induced
higher adult populations during the first eight months of
rearing; when compared with the untreated media. After
this period the populations decreased to tower levels in
the different diets.
