Abstract

In the last 24 months, two hundred and forty cases with retinal re-detachment in silicone filled eyes were operated upon. Assurance of closure of retinal breaks and efficient previous surgical removal of pre- and sub-retinal proliferative tissue should be secured. Retinal re-attachment can be accomplished by simple buckling procedures which is basically drainage of subretinal fluid or silicone fluid externally with revision of the previously placed scleral buckle. Occasionally addition of silicone oil is necessary. Re-attachment occurred in 66% , partial re-attachment in 20% and failure with re-attachment in 14%. A visual acuity 1/60 or better was obtained in 86% and better than H.M. in 14%.
