الملخص
Background:the Stoppa approach versus ilioinguinal allows good accessibility to different types of acetabular fractures; theStoppa approach had less blood loss.
Patients and methods:20 patients hadacetabular fractures at banha university and insurance hospitals from May 2014 to April 2017, were classified in to 2 groups; group A subjected to surgery viailioinguinal approach, and group B subjected to surgery viathe modified Stoppa approach. The patients of the two groups had been assessed regarding, fracture pattern, operative time, blood loss during the operation, quality of reduction, and postoperative complications The finalresults were analyzed based on the criteria ofMerle D’Aubigné score.

Results: Average blood loss was determined at a mean 980 mL (range, 700–1700 mL) in Group A and at a mean 780 mL (range, 350–1500 mL) in Group B.And Merle D’Aubigné scores (group A = 15.9 [11–18] and group B = 15.95 [11–18] The complication rate was (4 patients) in Group A and (2patients) in Group B (P = 0.84).

Conclusions:modified Stoppa approach is good alternative to the classic ilioinguinal approach with satisfactory results, less operative time and blood loss.
