Abstract
Background: Recent findings suggest that inflammation may play an important role in the pathogenesis of acute coronary syndromes (1) .Unstable angina is characterized by increased levels of the acutephase reactants fibrinogen, C-reactive protein (CRP), serum amyloid A protein and cytokine. Interleukin (IL-6) the major inducer of CRP
production in the liver and their elevation is associated with a worse short and long term prognosis-".
Objective: this study was conducted to evaluate the prevaqlence of elevated level of il-6 among patients with unstable angina and its effect on short term prognosis.
Patients and Metbodes: the study population comprised 50 patients, they were classified into 2 groups ,group I comprised sixteen patients with nonnallevel il-6 and group 11 comprised 34 patients with level of il-6 .all patients were subjected to thorough history taking ,full clinical examination, laboratory investigations including crp, cpk,ck
mb,and serum il-6 at admission & discharge as well as ecg and coronary angiography.
