Abstract
The paper presents an efficient modular PQR formulation to model the interconnected AC system dynamics. It is useful in manipulating the unified system differential and algebraic equations and develop an efficient "Small Signal" linearized model. The technique is illustrated on an actual simplified electric utility system to investigate electromechanical inter-area and intra-area modes and how these modes can be damped by proper selection of AC excitation controllers and power system stabilizers.
