Abstract

This work aimed at following up the implications of successive use of different mineral nitrogen, phosphate and potassium fertilizers on accumulation of some heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Co and Ni) in El-Nubaria (loamy calcareous soil) and El-Bostan (non-calcareous sandy soil) as well as plants grown thereon. Sits covering lands of different cultivation periods (<5, 10and > 20 years) within both of the investigated soils were sampled. Likewise, plants grown at theses sits were sampled. Both the soils and the plant samples were analyzed for the aforementioned metal ions. Furthermore, the water drainage through the investigated soils was sampled. The obtained results showed that prolonging period of cultivation was associated with increasing concentrations of the investigated elements in both soils and plants grown thereon. However, DTPA extractable contents of metal ions were grater in the sandy soils than in the calcareous one. Also, concentrations of different metal ions in drainage water of the calcareous soils were less than the corresponding ones of the sandy soils. Results indicated also that there is exposure being in children higher than adults in accordance with metal concentrations trend in soils and biota (grains of maize and wheat plants)
