Abstract
Various colour tones can be obtained via the thermal insulation printing technique using only one silk screen to apply the required design onto fabrics without the addition of a thickening agent. The idea of this approach depends on pigmenting the substrates with the pigment, binder, acid donner and water manually and exposing the wet fabrics to hot air in an oven face to face with one silk-screen containing the required design.
The uneven exposure of the wet fabrics to heat (due to using a photo-engraved silk-screen) results in themigration of pigment particles towards the drying part of the substrate which creates endless colour tones due to colour merging. Fabrics are then thermofixed to ensure imparting the fabrics satisfying fastness properties.
The prints are characterized by brilliant colour strength as well as the same fastness properties of traditional pigment prints.
