Abstract
The study aimed to evaluate the effect of an educational program on the performance of nurses working with cardiac patients. And to answer research questions ; Is there a lack of nurse’s knowledge and skills required for care of cardiac patients ? and Is there a positive relationship between an educational program for nurses about care of cardiac patients and nurses performance ? The study was conducted in the medical cardiac units , these units are : ICU , Cardiac department involved the CCU and Cardiac catheter at Benha University Hospitals in Benha city . Data was collected in three ways : An arabic questionnaire sheet to assess the nurse’s knowledge , an observation check list to assess the nurses practice and Likert scale to assess nurse’s attitude toward patient in medical cardiac units . The results imply that there were significant differences between pre and post program implementation regarding nurse’s knowledge working with cardiac patients . There was an improvement in nurse’s practice between pre and post program implementation . There was a significant difference pre and post program implementation in relation to nurse’s attitude toward care of cardiac patients . In conclusion , the study revealed that the program had a positive effect on the nurses’ knowledge , attitude and practice toward nursing care for cardiac patients . Replication of the inservice educational program for nurses working with cardiac patients to upgrade their knowledge and improve their practice is highly recommended .
