Abstract

Introduction Nontraumatic acute tetraplegia attributable to cervical disk herniation is rare [1]. Acute tetraplegia is a catastrophic event that is medically and personally devastating. It often results from motor vehicle accidents, falls, violence, and sports [2]. We reporton a caseof acute nontraumatic cervical disk C5-6 herniation causing incomplete tetraplegia sub-C5 with se-vere compression of the spinal cord. We also review and discuss similar reported cases in the literature. All procedures followed were in accordance with the ethical standards of the responsible committee on human experimentation (institu-tional and national) and with the Helsinki Declaration of 1975, as revised in 2000. Informed consent was obtained from the patient for being included in the study.
