Abstract

Today, patients are more assertive and involved in their health care. They are demanding to be participants in decision about their health care. The aim of the study is to determine nurse's and patient's perception toward patient's rights and patient's satisfaction of nurses` compliance at Benha University Hospital in patients` units of the general medical and the general surgical departments . The subjects contain two types of sample (180) patients and (137) nurses. There were two developed tools used for data collection: nurses and patients perception toward patient rights questionnaires and patient's satisfaction related to nurses` compliance to patient's rights questionnaires. The result of the present study showed that more than half of nurses had a high degree of awareness regarding patient's rights to considerate and respectful care. More than half of patients had a high degree of awareness to privacy. The majority of patients had unsatisfied regarding their rights to privacy and be informed about other hospitals and other health care providers. The total mean score of nurses` awareness was more than patients` awareness and patients` awareness was more than their satisfaction of nurses` compliance. The study recommended mainly, conducting educational programs by nurses` managers to increase awareness of nurses and patients about patient's rights and the hospital make periodic patients satisfaction survey to ensure the application of bills of patients` rights.
