Abstract
Background: Recent genome-wide association (GWA) studies of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) Identified novel genes associated with the etiology of late onset diabetes The aim of the study: to assess the genetic association of insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2) rs4402960 polymorphisms with the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Egyptian patients. Methods: We enrolled 50 patients; 30 patients with T2DM, and 20 healthy control patients matched for age and sex. Patients were subjected to: history taking, clinical examination, measuring fasting serum glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C), lipid profile and genotyping of IGF2BP2 SNP (rs4402960) with Real- Time PCR allelic discrimination. Results: Patients had statistically significant difference regarding allele frequency of IGF2BP2 (rs4402960) SNP as it exhibited an increased T allele frequency in diabetic group while G allele was decreased compared to controls.
