Abstract
In the present study, a trial was made to use a serological survey for detection of salmonella carriers in turkeys and geese by rapid slide agglutination test using the polyvalent stained salmonella antigen. Salmonella were isolated from turkeys and geese farms using (cloacal swabs and floor litter) with total isolate in rate of 7.3% (turkeys) and 6% (geese). 20 isolates of salmonellae (11 from turkeys and 9 from geese) were serotyped as S. typhimuri-um, S. enteritidis, S. virchow, S. pullorum, S. meleagridis, S. infantis and S. montevideo. The different salmonella antigens were made from 5 strains (S. typhimurium, S. enteritidis, S. virchow, S. pullorum and S. meleagridis) which representing groups B, C, D and E of salmonella. Serological survey for detection of salmonella carriers by rapid whole blood agglutination test using the polyvalent stained salmonella antigen, out of 200 birds (100 of each turkeys and geese), the incidence of carriers was 11% for turkeys and 8% for geese. Comparing the efficiency of different stained monovalent and polyvalent antigens for testing birds by rapid serum agglutination test. The polyvalent antigen detected the highest positively as 13% turkeys and 7% geese. From the results polyvalent stained antigen that include representative member of each group of salmonella should be used as screening test to detect salmonellae in turkeys and geese.
