Abstract
Abstract: Globalization is one of the major factors in modern society. It is both a threat and a challenge, depending on the point of view of the observer. This paper looks at the effect of globalization in the area of English language teaching (ELT) in Egypt. It concentrates on teaching English to Egyptian learners and its impact on the use of the native language (Arabic). As an international language, English plays a powerful role in cultural mobility all over the world. Therefore, this research paper refers to the immediate linguistic cultural and teaching environment, i.e. English language teaching in Egypt and the possible impact of such a language on the Egyptian culture which is reflected in the daily use of speech. The research ends with a number of methodological suggestions that could be useful for the foreign language classroom.
