Abstract

Awareness of women about screening for cervical cancer via regular gynecologic examinations and cytological test can be the greatest defenses against the disease. Design: A quasi experimental study design was used. Aim: To evaluate the effect of awareness protocol for women regarding risk factors, screening and early detection methods of cervical cancer. Setting: Faculties of nursing at (AinShams, Benha, and Tanta) universities. Sampling: A total sample of (246) employee women were working at the above mentioned settings. Tools: 1- Structured interview schedule which includes four parts: A- Socio demographic data for employee women. B-Risk factors regarding cervical cancer. C- Women knowledge regarding cervical cancer D- Women’s reported practice regarding screening and early detection methods of cervical cancer 2- Likert scale to assess the employee women’s attitudes toward cervical cancer screening and early detection methods. Results: The majority of women at the three settings revealed lack of knowledge, unsatisfactory practices, and negative attitude regarding cervical cancer screening detection methods. Significant improvement was found regarding most items of knowledge, practices and attitude immediately and 3 months later after the implementation of awareness guidelines. Conclusion: Significant improvement in women's knowledge, practices & attitude after implementation of awareness protocol. Recommendation: Apply the same study in large sample size in other different settings.
