Abstract

The advantages of reinforced earth has led to its use nearly in most of earth work. Random reinforced sand is one kind of reinforced earth. This work consists of mixing polymeric material (geogrid elements ) with coarse sand. Then, the composite material is compacted in layers. This research is aiming to study the effect of different reinforcement aperture size of geogrid elements on the behavior of random reinforced sand. The behavior was investigated experimentally under dry triaxial conditions. The geogrid element was made from polyethylene. Experimental results have given a clear picture of the effect of reinforcing elements area on the behavior of random reinforced sand.
