Abstract
This study deals with the recycling of two common waste material of plant origin in Egypt and the possibility of their applicable uses with asphalt cement. These wastes are Eichhornia crassipes plants and noxious woods that when left uncontrolled can be caused some environmental problems. This investigation study the addition of Eichhornia crassipes and wood-saw dust separately in different concentration to El-Suez (60-70) AC and El-America (80-100) AC. A set of additives-asphalt are prepared from the dry matter of each type of additives at four ratios of additives/asphalt by the weight of asphalt for each type of asphalt are used in this study. A series of conventional tests are performed to measure their physical properties. The physical properties of the two types of asphalt cement with the additives were investigated and compared with untreated asphalt. On the basis of the findings of this study, it appears that the additives were used with the asphalt cement are useful as reinforcing agents in asphalt cement in terms of reducing the penetration and increasing the kinematic viscosity, the absolute viscosity, softening point and durability. The optimum additives contents were 3.0% and 5.0% of each additive with (60-70) AC and (80-100) AC respectively. The responsibility for improvement is higher in case of (80-100) AC Than (60-70) AC.
