Abstract
The effect of load inclination on bearing capacity was previously studied theoretically either by introducing inclination factors to reduce bearing capacity or by obtaining modified dimensionless factors dependent on load inclination angle ( ). Failure modes and boundaries angles of failure zones were assumed and estimated referring to theoretical assumptions without substantial verification. This is the reason of obtaining different solutions of bearing capacity at same conditions. Therefore, in the present study a series of laboratory two-dimensional bearing tests was carried out to study th effect of load inclination on bearing capacity, soil deformation, failure modes, and boundaries angles of failure zones. Modified inclination bearing capacity factors ( ) are presented to estimate ultimate bearing capacity of shallow footing subjected to inclined loads using main bearing capacity equations. Where, these factors were obtained using limit equilibrium method for analyzing the equilibrium of soil mass beneath footing base level. The analysis of bearing capacity was based on the obtained results of two-dimensional bearing tests.
