Abstract

General (OCA) and specific (SCA) combining abilities and their interaction with year were investigated in one set of F’s among eight inbreeds lines. Significant OCA was detected in the combined anaL sis for most of the traits except for the date of mid-silking. Also, significant SCA was detected for all traits with the exception of ear height, ear length and mid-tasseling date. Both GCA.year and SCA.year were significant only for mid-silking date, plant height and number of kernels/row. Calculated ratios of GCA.year/GCA was higher than (he ratio GCA*year/SCA for mid-silking date indicating that the additive and additive by additive effects were highly influenced by year for this trait. As for plant height and number of kernels/row, the ratio SCA,year/SCA was higher than GCA*year/OCA indicating that the non-additive effects were more influenced by year. Significant OCA by year interaction was detected for mid-tasseling date. On the contrary, significant SCA by year interaction was detected for ear diameter and grain yield/plain.
