Abstract

Two field experiments were conducted to determine the effect of three seeding rates (30, 50 and 70 kg/fed..) and five weed control treatments (Brominal 0.75 L; Herbogil 2,.0 L; Fenuron 0..75 kg/fed..; two hand weeding and a control treatment) on yield and yield components of wheat variety Giza 157 and associated weeds. The two experiments took place in 1979/80 and 1980/81 seasons, at the Research and Experimental Center of Moshtohor, Faculty of Agriculture, Zagazig University.. The Obtained results showed that increa sing seeding rate from 30 to 70 kg/fed.. significantly decrea sed the fresh weight of weeds by 36..4% and the dry weight by 46.0% after 100 days from sowing.. Wheat plant height, grain and straw yields were increased significantly by increasing seeding rate up to 50 kg/fed.. However, the spike weight was decreased by increasing seeding rate. The number of tillers and spikes/rn2 and 1000—grain weight were stable over the three seeding rates utilized in this study.. With respect to the effect of weed control, the three herbicides as well as twice hand weeding decreased the fresh and dry weight of weeds significantly at 100 days after planting.. Wheat plant height, grain weight/spike and 1000-grain weight were significantly increased by weed control treatments. The herbicides used as well as hand weeding increased grain and straw yields/fed.. Brominal (0.75 (L../fed,.) gave the highest grain and straw yields/fed.. and decreased both fresh and dry weights of weeds better than the other treat ments.. The effect of the interaction between seeding rates and weed control treatments was not significant on any of the characters included in this study..
