Abstract

In this paper, a new compression technique aiming at reducing the size of storage of satellite images is pre-sented. We considered one type of multispectral images; Landsat ETM+. It is common to include data compres-sion as a part of the distribution system for satellite imagery. A dual-tree discrete wavelet transform (DDWT) in the spectral domain, a two-dimensional (2-D) discrete wavelet transform (DWT) in the spatial domain, and a sim-ple Huffman coder are used in the proposed technique. The mean square error (MSE), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), average difference (AD), spectral angle mapper (SAM) and spectral information divergence (SID) are used in the proposed technique.
