Abstract
This prospective study was conducted on 200 pregnant women and their newborns for detection of hepatitis B virus (HBV) carrier mothers * and the newborns at risk of perinatal infection. It documented a relatively high carrier rate (8.5%) of (HBV) among pregnant women as well as a significant portion (52.9%) of newborns at risk of perinatal transmission. So, the study recommended routine screening of pregnant population in our community for HBV infection to identify carrier mothers and newborns at risk of perinatal infection to control the disease
