Abstract

The architect must reconstruct the universe according the very laws that govern it. But a reconstruction neither makes sense nor has a purpose unless one repeats the process and act of creation. That part of architect’s working process that is conscious must resolve conflicts, organize memories. The architect neither creates nor invents but obeys a profound law of reality and can discover within himself this law to the extent that he divests himself of everything that is conventional and that is of a sentimental or emotive habit. Form must be felt a pure, solid form, not as descriptions or reminiscences. For this reason, form is outside of history and is pure presence. Abstract form has been re-absorbed into the theory of empirical experience of the Impressionists. What is distinctive in modern architecture of today is the tendency to apply modern aesthetics mixed with the art of the past to maintain or improve the quality of the design.
